He was contracted by Mr. Waldmann, Director of the <em>Ronacher Theater<\/em>. <em>Etablissement<\/em> <em>Ronacher<\/em> (as it was called at that time) was the No.1 variet\u00e9 theater in Vienna at the turn of the century. Interestingly enough, the director, <em>Lajos M. Waldmann,<\/em> was a Hungarian man. At the end of October 1900 newspapers in Vienna started to advertise Houdini\u2019s debut. The following article was taken from <em>Wienerwald Bote,<\/em> October 28, 1900. It gives a short overview of Houdini\u2019s life and his amazing tricks in Berlin. Interestingly enough on November 4, Sunday, 1900, the following ad appears in <em>Deutsches Volksblatt<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-351 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.houseofhoudinibudapest.com\/research_news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Deutsches-Volksblatt-1900-november-4-kicsi-1.jpg\" alt=\"Deutsches Volksblatt 1900 november 4 kicsi\" width=\"343\" height=\"151\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Ronacher Presents<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Today and every day: Harry Houdini. The Handcuff King!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Although Houdini was clearly not present in Vienna, Ronacher still used his name to pull in the audience to watch the November show. The advertisement also appeared on November 6, 8 and 13.<\/p>\n<p>Viennese people must have waited another year and a half to see Houdini live on stage at the Ronacher.
